veloSnap support
veloSnap is a small, independently built iPhone app. Questions, bug reports, and feature requests are read personally.
- · Include your iPhone model, iOS version, camera model, and camera firmware.
- · Describe what you expected and what happened.
- · Note the environment: microphone input, distance, and noise level.
- · Never send camera passwords, QR codes containing credentials, microphone audio, or unredacted diagnostic information. Support will never ask for them.
Camera compatibility
veloSnap is currently tested with the Sony α7 IV (ILCE-7M4), firmware 6.02.
Several newer Sony cameras that provide PC Remote over Wi-Fi Direct may also be compatible, including the α7R IV/IVA, α7S III, α7C, α1, α9 II, and α7R V. These models are not yet verified and should not be purchased specifically for veloSnap until they appear on the tested list.
Older USB-only PC Remote models (including the α7, α7 II, α7 III, α7R I–III, α7S I–II, and original α9) are not supported by veloSnap's current wireless connection.
Wi-Fi smartphone remote support is not the same as the PC Remote / Remote Shoot over Wi-Fi Direct path that veloSnap requires. veloSnap is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Sony.
Quick start
- On the camera, open the Sony PC Remote / Remote Shoot over Wi-Fi Direct information screen.
- In veloSnap, scan the displayed connection code, or enter the camera SSID and password manually.
- Let iOS join the camera's direct Wi-Fi network so the app can open its camera command and event sessions.
- Check camera readiness and use live view to frame the shot.
- Choose the built-in, wired, or Bluetooth microphone, turn on listening, and auto-set or manually adjust the trigger threshold.
- Arm. After a three-second countdown, sound above the threshold sends the shutter command following any trigger delay you set. Sound must fall below the threshold before it can trigger again.
Camera setup
- Keep the camera awake with its Wi-Fi Direct information screen open while connecting.
- Allow Wi-Fi and Local Network access for veloSnap in iOS Settings.
- Rescan if the camera's network details change.
- Use a photo mode: M, A, S, or P.
Connection troubleshooting
Wi-Fi not detected. Confirm Wi-Fi is available on the iPhone and that the camera is broadcasting its direct network. iOS cannot conclusively tell the app whether Wi-Fi has been switched off.
Not connected to the camera network. Rejoin the camera's network from iOS Settings or rescan the connection code. Camera credentials can change when the camera restarts its Wi-Fi Direct session.
Camera not responding. Make sure the camera is awake, in a photo mode, and still on the Remote Shoot screen. Power saving, playback mode, or menu screens can suspend remote control.
VPN may be active. If local access fails, temporarily disable the VPN or configure it to allow local network traffic.
Microphone
- Microphone permission is requested in context, when you start listening.
- Audio is analyzed only while monitoring or armed, and is never recorded.
- The selected input can change when you connect or remove wired and Bluetooth microphones.
- iOS may interrupt audio, for example on a phone call. Check the app state and re-arm if needed.
Background operation
veloSnap keeps monitoring sound in the background or with the iPhone locked while it is explicitly armed. This is subject to iOS interruptions and audio route changes. Disarm when you are finished so the app stops listening.
Demo mode
Demo mode runs the app against a simulated camera. No camera hardware is used and no real photograph is taken. Use it to explore the interface and trigger behaviour before you connect a camera.
Known limitations
- Version 1.0 triggers on sound only. Live view is for framing and camera status.
- The event list is session-only, capped at 500 entries, and cleared when the app process ends.
- The camera's displayed response value is command acknowledgement timing, not proof of the photograph's exposure time or shutter accuracy.
- Latency varies with the camera, firmware, iPhone, iOS, microphone route, radio conditions, and camera state. veloSnap is not suitable for ultra-fast events such as balloon pops or water droplets.
